That Thing Won’t Pay for Itself…

…or will it?

Nest Learning Thermostat programs itself. Then pays for itself with savings on energy usage AND COSTS!

Since 2011, the Nest Learning Thermostat has saved billions of kWH of energy in millions of homes worldwide by learning your occupancy patterns and programming itself to those. It learns what temperature you like and builds a schedule around yours to provide you with the most economic settings. In fact, the Nest Learning Thermostat is the first thermostat to get ENERGY STAR certified for energy efficiency and savings.

Your thermostat controls half of your energy usage and bills…more than any appliance or electronic. An independent study showed that Nest thermostats save people an average of 10-12% on heating bills and 15% on cooling bills. So, in under two years, it can pay for itself.

“That stat will pay for itself”

That’s great, right? Here’s even greater news: you can adjust, monitor and view your Nest Learning Thermostat from anywhere in the world from any smart device, such as a tablet or your phone. Simply download the Nest app and you are in control of the thermostat in or away from home!

So, yes…that stat will pay for itself…and, offer you so much more in convenience and control.

For more information on this Nest appliance and other smart home products sold and installed by Expert HVAC and Refrigeration, a Nest Pro Contractor, call us at 915-58-1732 or visit us at https://experthvacandrefrigeration.com/nest-home-automation/

DDIY: Don’t Do It Yourself

When It Comes to Installing a Smart Thermostat, you will want to leave that to the Experts!

You may be tempted to buy one of those sexy thermostats at Home Depot or Lowes, like the Nest Learning Thermostat, because of its promotion to: 1. Program itself; then, 2. Pay for itself. While that is true, you should never INSTALL IT YOURSELF!

Installing a thermostat is one of those Don’t Do It Yourself-ers. And, for good reasons.

  1. It’s dangerous, first and foremost. Anytime you are messing with electricity, you are at risk for shock. Thermostats are hardwired and require electrical knowledge and experience to install. So this is your warning, don’t ever try to install a thermostat of any kind yourself. Call the Experts.
  2. Not all thermostats work on all equipment models. Nest, for example, has two models of thermostats: the generational Nest Learning stat and a newer Nest Thermostat E. The former is the original and better known, but it is more expensive than the Nest E. That is causing more homeowners to choose the cheaper model. While that cheaper Nest E does everything that the original does, it is not compatible with some HVAC systems. But, that doesn’t stop homeowners from buying and installing it. And, those are the calls we get! “Expert, I installed a new Nest thermostat that I ordered from Amazon and now my air conditioner won’t work.”  That situation is only going to cost you more money because you won’t be able to return the now used thermostat and you will want to purchase the one that does work. Call the Experts and get it right the first time!
  3. You won’t get the five-year warranty if you don’t use a Nest Pro Contractor to install the thermostat for you. Nest awards homeowners who make the smarter move to buy and install their thermostats with a Nest Pro Contractor. Expert is El Paso’s Nest Pro Contractor with the best prices for product and installation. But most of all, we have the most experience with Nest installations and guarantee our work AND the products.
  4. Expert HVAC and Refrigeration can help you design a complete smart home with other Nest products including:
    1. Nest Hello, doorbell and camera
    2. Nest Protect, CO/smoke detector
    3. Nest Cams, indoor and outdoor cameras
    4. Nest Secure, alarm system with door and window sensors
    5. Nest APP, smart device controller: use your phone, tablet or computer
    6. Google Home, the hub that can also assist and control devices with voice-activated commands

Expert HVAC and Refrigeration is El Paso’s Nest Pro Contractor helping homeowners get the smart home they desire…and ensuring it is installed and works properly. We have immediate access to internet setup support for your connection to Wi-Fi and operation of your Nest smart home, too! Not all Wi-Fi signals are strong enough for smart home automation, but we have the auxiliary boosters and router products to meet every home’s connectivity challenges.

What is a Split System HVAC?

At Expert HVAC and Refrigeration El Paso, we are often asked the question, what is a split system air conditioner? And, is it better than a packaged unit?

The explanation is simpler than you might think. First, no one type of central A/C unit is better than the other. The type of system used is typically based on the structure and layout of your house and how much space you have.

In the simplest terms, central air conditioners are broken down into two categories: split systems and rooftop package units. A split air conditioner takes up more room than a packaged air conditioner, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that a packaged unit is better.

When we refer to a split air conditioner, we are talking about the way in which the unit is set up. A split air conditioner is composed of two separate units, a condensing unit and an evaporative coil (known as a “condenser,” and a “coil”). It is from these two separate units that a split air conditioner gets its name. These units are joined by a set of copper tubing known as a “line-set,” which transfers refrigerant from one unit to another.

The easiest way to tell if you have a split air conditioning system is to see if you have two parts to your air conditioner. If you have one part inside, either in an attic, garage or in a closet, then you have a split AC unit. If your air conditioner has only one piece (that is typically on the roof), and a piece of ductwork going into the roof, then you have a packaged unit. If you have evaporative cooling, you’ll probably only have a furnace in garage or closet and no centralized A/C system at all. (Converting to refrigerated air to get centralized cooling in a split system or package unit is an easy fix for the experts at Expert HVAC and Refrigeration. Give us a call for a free estimate to do so.)

Energy Management Solutions for Light Commercial Buildings

On average, heating and cooling account for up to 63% of a light commercial building’s energy usage, making it the perfect target to reduce operating costs for any business. To do that, however, one needs a good Energy Management System (EMS). Expert HVAC and Refrigeration offers EMS solutions for any size building or business.

With our light commercial EMS solutions, you can monitor and control the HVAC system and automate ancillary devices—all at a fraction of the price of a commercial Distech system or more sophisticated building automation system, generally reserved for larger buildings.

EMS makes managing a number of thermostats, individually or as groups, across various locations with multiple users, all from a single web portal or smart phone app easy. It’s a best way to reduce costs related to heating and cooling these spaces, as well as the doing one’s part to reduce the environmental footprint that energy management solutions provide.

For more information on the options available for EMS for light commercial applications–from strip malls to churches to banks and others–call the experts at Expert HVAC and Refrigeration at 915-598-1732 or visit us at www.ai9.co to learn more.

Wet Dog Smell in Your House? We Can Help!

Do you sometimes feel like you are living inside a dog kennel…especially when outdoor conditions are more humid? Do you clean your house constantly, but are unable to get all of the smells out? Having dogs does not mean you have to live with their smells. Air cleaners are a great way to cut down on pet odors (and allergens) that linger in the air.

If you have pets in the house, air cleaners are the most effective way to remove dander and pet hair.

Offering the Latest in Clean Air Technology

Improving your indoor air quality is a priority for Expert HVAC and Refrigeration. When we sell a new cooling system, we know we have provided one that is going to promote better air and health for a family in El Paso and we feel great about that!

When it comes to a new Amana cooling and heating system, there nothing better to remove odors and provide better indoor air quality than it…especially if it is coupled with an air cleaner.

Why Choose an Electronic Air Cleaner?

Electronic air cleaners contain the most effective filters on the market. And, if someone in your family has allergies or a respiratory illness, installing one may help them to breathe easier and better deal with those issues. If you have pets in the house, air cleaners are the most effective way to remove dander and pet hair, too. Electronic air cleaners have the ability to trap the smallest airborne particles like cigarette soot, pet dander, and mold spores from the air. This makes the air cleaner and breathing easier. Your house will continuously smell and feel more refreshing.

We can fit the right electronic air filtering system in your home

Custom Solutions and an HVAC Contractor You Can Rely On

At Expert HVAC and Refrigeration, we’re constantly researching, finding and upgrading our equipment list with the most innovative solutions for homeowners to improve their airflow and indoor air quality. We can fit the right electronic air filtering system in your home, install it for you and provide the high-quality media air filters you’ll need to maintain it.

Studies Suggest That More Comfort at Work Will Increase Productivity and Employee Satisfaction

In 2015, a Leesman survey* of 136,000 workers reported that the 3 features identified as the most important parts of an effective workspace are:

  1. Temperature
  2. Chair
  3. Desk

Temperature control also had the highest number of dissatisfied people, meaning thermal comfort is a main priority for employees and should be for employers!

In a separate study conducted over a month by Cornell University’s Human Factors and Ergonomics Laboratory, researchers also learned that more comfort increases productivity and creates less errors. In the study, worker performance was measured when they were exposed to varying temperatures. The results indicated that by creating more comfort employers saved about $2 per worker, per hour, in increased productivity and loss time.

These surveys are powerful proof that thermal comfort in commercial workspaces are so important for productivity. But, they are also critical for employee satisfaction…both of which impacts a company’s bottom line.

For commercial HVAC services including an audit of your building’s thermal comfort, call the experts at Expert HVAC and Refrigeration at 915-598-1732

* Leesman surveys measure employee experience and results are often used as the benchmark for worker satisfaction.

Sunny with a Chance of Discomfort, Wetness and Mold

You gotta love summer in El Paso.

As we are forced indoors because of our extreme temperatures, you want to think you’ll be able to escape the misery this weather brings in your own home. But, if your home’s forecast looks like this headline…there’s little chance!

Convert to Refrigerated Air

You know. We know. Everyone knows. The only way to find real comfort from the El Paso hot, hot summers is to convert to refrigerated air. Our recent humid conditions along with heat are no battle for a swamp cooler. While you may feel cooler air hitting you, it’s a wet and musty smelling air. Swamp coolers simply don’t work as a comfort solution in humid conditions. Wetness they produce indoors is actually compounded when it’s humid outside. Not, to mention, the mold that is building up on the duct work from running that moisture through them is creating an unhealthy, smelly home.

Yes, they may be slightly – ever so slightly – less expensive to run; they are running less effectively. High efficiency refrigerated air systems don’t really add that much to your energy usage. It’s a question you need to ask yourself…do I pay a little more for MUCH MORE comfort in my home?

If you answer “yes” to this question and are tired of feeling gross and uncomfortable in your own home, call us for an estimate to CONVERT TO REFRIGERATED AIR!

The time is now! Call 915-598-1732.

Dehumidify Your El Paso Home for More Comfort and Less Damaging Condensation

Homeowners are calling us regarding high humidity in homes…even with their A/C on. Remember, the primary responsibility of refrigerated air is to remove heat from the air with dehumidification being a secondary function. For this reason, consider helping the system by adding a dehumidifier.

Moisture is naturally present in the air in the form of vapor and it condenses when in contact with cold surfaces. Too much moisture from humidity in the home creates “wet spots” like that pictured here on the ceiling of this home.

With the changes in our El Paso climate in recent years, we are experiencing more and more days of high humidity. A (de)humidification solution added to your system is our best recommendation to pull that additional moisture from your indoor air. Doing so creates more comfort, less wetness and odors, but it also protects your homes contents (upholstery, art, moulding, piano, other woods, etc.).

To completely eliminate or minimize damaging condensation and uncomfortable moisture from your indoor air, call us for a quote on adding a humidification system to your home’s HVAC. Call the experts at Expert HVAC and Refrigeration at 915-598-1732.
