4 Ways to Keep Your System Up and Running in the El Paso Heat

Summertime is full on in El Paso and that means the cooling system, whether it’s refrigerated air or evaporative cooler, is going to be tested to the maximum. So, let’s make sure your AC is running at its best! A regularly maintained cooling system helps homeowners benefit from long system life, lower utility bills, enhanced indoor air quality and decreases the likelihood you’ll have to call us out on the hottest day of the year to have your system repaired when it does decides to fail. These 4 easy tasks, if done regularly, will help you prevent costly repairs to your cooling system during the highest temperatures of the El Paso summer heat: Change Your Air Filter(s) Air filters catch all pollens, dust, bugs, viruses, pet dander and lint to properly clean and flow the air into your home. A clogged and dirty air filter not only supplies allergens and maximizes dust into your living spaces, it also makes your cooling system have to work harder. This costs you more in utility bills, but it also can compromise the operation of your refrigerated air conditioner. Need help remembering to change the air filter? Check out our home delivery service…the right filter, delivered at the right times! https://experthvacandrefrigeration.com/filter-fetch/ Get Your Annual Maintenance Checks: once for cooling season; once for heating season It’s not too late! A summertime preventive maintenance check is exactly that: PREVENTION! All working parts are tested and evaluated for continued operation. Basic cleaning of obstructions in and out of the condensing units are done. And, your filters are changed. We’ll test your thermostat to make sure it is operating properly. Which brings us to this point: Consider Changing Out the Thermostat While thermostats “work” at optimum efficiency for about 5-7 years, they do slowly fail. During this time, your system is being directed by a control that is not performing at its peak. This can cause your system to run overtime. The thermostat is the brains of the system, and it should be changed out to continue to provide the highest efficiency and energy savings as possible. We have some great options, like the Nest Learning Thermostat, that don’t cost much…and will actually pay themselves off in a short period. Convert to Refrigerated Air It’s been humid lately. And, it’s going to get even more humid here in El Paso for the coming monsoon season. If you are running a swamp cooler, you don’t need us to tell you how uncomfortable your home is when it is even the slightest bit humid. Humidity is terrible for comfort, but did you know that it also affects the contents of your home? Woods, like cabinetry, pianos, and doors can become warped through expansion and contraction caused by extra humidity. Upholstery and carpeting will pull in any extra moisture in your home caused by humidity and create odors and just make you feel wet. When you convert to refrigerated air, you’ll experience a level of comfort and cleanliness you never thought possible. Converting to refrigerated air also adds value to your home and keeps your utility bills in check. Money is saved when you convert. It is possibly the best investment you can make in your El Paso home today! Gain peace of mind this summer knowing that your cooling system is running the best it can. For repairs, maintenance and estimates on your refrigerated air system or swamp cooler, call the experts at Expert HVAC and Refrigeration at 915-598-1732 or visit us at www.ai9.co

5 Reasons to Convert to Refrigerated Air

  1. It’s healthier. Evaporative coolers draw in moisture from the outdoors to operate properly and with that, unfortunately, comes mold and mildew growing in the air ducts. Indoor air is adversely affected by evaporative cooling.
  2. It’s cooler. Says one customer who recently converted, “I am so incredibly cool and comfortable for the first time in my own home.”
  3. It’s quieter. Swamp coolers run constantly in the hot months in El Paso and they run LOUD. New, high efficiency refrigerated air systems “step up” the amount of cooling and heating needed to meet the set temperature on the thermostat so that they only run when called for and not all of the time, thus reducing noise.
  4. It adds value to your home. Refrigerated air in an El Paso home is the best investment you can make! Your investment will always be returned. Selling your home soon? Convert and your home will sell faster!
  5. Systems last longer than evaporative coolers. Convert to refrigerated air and you’ll be running cool and comfortable for many years to come. New Amana systems comes with 10 year warranty on most working parts…and 20 years on the heat exchanger.

You won’t meet anyone who has converted to refrigerated air who doesn’t say “I should have done this a long time ago!”

Convert today and get a FREE Nest thermostat to help control utility costs with it’s award-winning learning features and away-from-home controls.

Improve the Air You Breathe and Minimize Dust, Allergens and Pollutants

Many factors contribute to the quality of indoor air, from what artificial products are used in the house, to cooking, to preferences for comfort, including the HVAC, windows and doors. Continuously breathing bad indoor air is very unhealthy, causing many to have heightened allergies and sinus problems. You can eliminate the pollutants making your indoor air to be poor by knowing what’s causing it and then choosing a solution from our arsenal of air quality products to combat it.

Here is a list of typical allergens that affect your indoor air quality:

Outdoor-indoor allergens are substances that occur naturally outdoors but become concentrated indoors and can cause or exacerbate allergies and asthma. Allergens can come from pests like cockroaches, mice, and dust mites that many time roam the home and we don’t even realize it. Organisms in the form of pollen or mold also can easily enter the air of a home when using an evaporative cooler or other water product that is attached to the interior of a home on a consistent basis.

Fine particles (or dust) generally comes from what is circulating outside to what is going on indoors. Even the burning of candles can cause poor indoor air and create dust.

Toxic gases can build up in the interior of a home but are rare. Mostly, there is a danger of carbon monoxide that could come from heating the home. Naturally occurring radon gas can appear in a home by rising from the ground beneath. Though usually found at lower levels indoors than outdoors, ozone can infiltrate the home from outside or be produced by ozone-generating appliances or water treatment machines.

Household products and chemicals that are used to keep your home clean, as well as personal care products, release somewhat dangerous airborne chemicals. Beauty products, paints, lacquers, pesticides, and disinfectants are just a few of the typical things that many of us use on a daily basis that will emit toxic substances into the home.

There is also a host of chemicals that can be released from new mattresses, carpets and new clothing. In time, these generally lessen or wear off completely.

Tobacco smoke can be just as dangerous inside as it is outside.

In reality, almost every home has some sort of allergen(s) floating around. Allergens are invisible particles that can be found on the surface of just about everything. Allergens, like pollen grains, dust fibers, pet dander, and a wide variety of others, can be minimized with a good indoor air cleaner. Installing an indoor air cleaner is especially recommended for those whose immune systems dramatically react to indoor allergens.

Call and let the experts at Expert HVAC and Refrigeration recommend an indoor air cleaning system that will work to improve the air quality in your home and minimize your symptoms! Here’s what we offer:

  • Central air purifiers remove the pollutants from the air before it reaches your living space.
  • Air filters remove pollutants from your home’s environment. Learn more about FilterFetch, air filter home delivery here: https://experthvacandrefrigeration.com/filter-fetch/
  • Humidifiers moistens the air in your home, helping to alleviate itchy skin, dry sinuses, and scratchy throats.
  • Dehumidifiers removes damp air from the air, curbing the proliferation of mold and mildew growth in your ducts.
  • UV lights disinfect the air that passes through your ducts, killing any harmful contaminants in the process.
  • Whole house ventilation or Fresh Air systems exchanges polluted indoor air for cleaner outdoor air, without changing the temperature of your home.

Call Expert HVAC and Refrigeration at 915-598-1732  for your best indoor air quality solutions.

Considering Converting to Refrigerated Air or an HVAC Replacement Using Your Tax Refund? Great…Just Beware of the Scammers!

Tax refund time is usually the best time to invest in larger home systems for the house, like getting new windows, painting the home, or converting to refrigerated air. It’s also a time when scammers know there is a little extra cash and homeowners looking for services like heating and cooling replacements.

Here’s 5 tips on what to look for from a service contractor and how to avoid possible scammers:

Ask for Identification

When a service technician comes to your door, always ask to see a business card or company badge before letting him in. Most reputable technicians wear company apparel and drive branded vehicles. If the heating and cooling technician can’t offer you proper verification of its company, DO NOT let him in your home.

Ask for Contractor License Number

It’s okay to take it a step further and ask to see a copy of the company’s license and insurance certificate. Most heating and air conditioning employees carry copies of these documents and it’s your right to request you see them before any work begins. Hiring a service company WITHOUT the proper licensing and insurance can be a big problem for you if something goes wrong, like an accident on your property…or a code violation

Do Your Research and Due Diligence on the Contractor

It’s always good to do a little research on a heating and cooling installer before hiring them. Check out their company profiles online at the BBB, Google or Yelp, Facebook, Angie’s List, etc., and read the reviews. Spending an extra 30-40 minutes researching HVAC contractors could save you a lot of time, money and TROUBLE in the long run. If you cannot find any background information about a heating and cooling company, you may want to rethink hiring that particular contractor.

Never Pay Upfront. Pay After the Project is Complete

RED FLAG. Scammers are the only people who ask for a down payment on repairs or replacements. Do not give credit card or cash to any service company or technician BEFORE the work is completed. If you are purchasing a new heating or air conditioning system on credit, you may have to apply for a new line of credit first, but you should not owe any money until the installation is complete.

“I Do This on the Side”…is a Phrase That You Should Never Hear

Beware of ‘side jobbers’. It takes a lot of training and experience to become a licensed and reputable HVAC contracting company. Most people working on the side may claim their labor rates are cheaper, and there’s a good reason for that. These individuals aren’t equipped, trained, licensing or insurance to do the job.

Don’t Take the Candy!

Deals and offers that sound too “over the top” are big red flags. In short, if the ‘deal’ seems too good to be true, it probably is!

For a free estimate on converting to refrigerated air or replacing an older heating and cooling system, call Expert HVAC and Refrigeration at 915-598-1732. We have been one of El Paso’s top HVAC contractors for nearly 50 years! And, we are fully licensed, bonded and insured and will be happy to share that information with you!

The Best Time To ‘Spring’ For a A/C Maintenance Check-up or a New Replacement

In El Paso, the summers can be very harsh on the cooling system, which is why we always recommend preparing it now BEFORE you experience an untimely breakdown on the hottest days of the year. March is the best time to do this and for good reasons. Here’s why:

  • Technicians aren’t as busy doing hot summer repairs and replacements so chances are you can get an immediate appointment.
  • The weather can get pretty hot! In fact, it’s going to be in the mid-80s later this coming week. Without a working cooling system, that can cause discomfort in the home.
  • Price for a maintenance check-up is a lot less than a repair if you postpone it.
  • Tons of dirt and dust from early season storms have accumulated on the filters. Maintenance checks include a filter change.

Spring is also the best time to replace your air conditioner should that be in the budget…and here’s why:

  • You can beat the manufacturer annual price increases which usually come in mid-April.
  • No waiting! Estimate today; install tomorrow is likely available.
  • You aren’t dependent upon your cooling so a day or two without a system while it is being installed is not going to be too uncomfortable.
  • Many homeowners like to be home during the install. Getting it done during spring break means you can be there when we’re there.

To schedule an A/C preventive maintenance check-up with Expert HVAC and Refrigeration, call us at 915-598-1732. Or, if you want to know what it would cost to convert to refrigerated air or replace an old system, call us and we’ll do a total home evaluation for a complete new, high efficiency HVAC system.

Wind. Dirt. Rain. And the HVAC.

It’s March and that means strong storms in El Paso — whipping wind, loads of dirt and pouring rain.

One question we frequently get at Expert HVAC is “What does that do to the HVAC?” Well, not to worry. Your HVAC will not go flying off the rooftop or stop working because dirt is entering it. Outdoor packaged systems and condensing units are actually built to withstand nearly every weather condition, including our more severe storms in the early spring in El Paso.

Where the problem lies is at the air filter. The dirt that is flying around outside does find its way to the filters. And they can clog up quickly in these windy conditions.

You will want to change your air filters more frequently during our gusty spring months in El Paso. Clogged filters are the number one reason for HVAC maintenance and repairs. An HVAC system that has to work too hard to supply airflow will quit prematurely. And replacing the entire system is an expensive proposition, as you know.

Springtime maintenance on the air conditioner is also a wise decision for the HVAC. A comprehensive inspection and cleaning will keep your A/C running at peak efficiency, just as it did the day it was installed.

To ensure that you will always have the right filter, Expert HVAC and Refrigeration offers air filter home delivery. You’ll receive an air filter at your doorstep, just when will you need to make the filter change. Commercial grade filters will be delivered — not the ones you buy at the big box stores.
