Time to Turn on the Evaporative cooler

It’s Time to Turn the Evaporative Cooler On. Make Sure It’s Done Properly & Safely

Expert HVAC & Refrigeration doesn’t recommend you subject yourself to the risks of maintaining your evaporative cooler, but if you insist on doing it yourself, here is our advice.

First, and most importantly, never work alone to turn on your evap cooler. Make sure someone is there in case of emergency. Once you’ve safely climbed up to the evap cooler, remove the cover and wipe the cooler down. If it’s been covered throughout the off season, it is likely that it is dusty, dirty and covered in debris. Next, replace the cooler pads. And, finally, clean out the water tank with soapy water. Fingers crossed, it’s now time to see if it still works.

Expert HVAC & Refrigeration suggests that you first “test it” by filling the water tank and reconnecting the power supply. After you turn on the switch, watch to make sure that the water pump is adequately wetting pads and that the blower works. You should feel the cooling coming out of the indoor vents within a few minutes. If all of these things happen, your evaporative cooler is probably operating properly.

But, if something does not sound, look or smell quite right, give us a call! We’re experts in swamp cooler maintenance.
